Kanon 24 - Final Episode

After a few days of avoidance, I sat down to watch episode 24 of Kanon. I’m going to talk about it some here. So don’t read it if you don’t like the spoilers. The series was really enjoyable, but I didn’t want it to end just yet. It put too much focus on Ayu and Makoto. Ayu’s storyline is so entwined with Nayki, that you can’t really feature Nayuki’s alone. So she doesn’t gets the shaft.

Still, Nayuki called me back for one more episode. Nyuu~

Akiko is OK

Well dearie, Akiko is back on her feet, and looking as cheerful as ever. It’s a miracle that she got well so soon, after being crushed flat as a pancake by an SUV. There is a new jam to welcome the morning, which is sufficient to fuel Nayuki straight out of sleepiness and into a sprint for school.

Nayuki’s has renewed confidence in her mother’s future existence. Of course, she’s just using Akiko for her Jam. Except for that jam (composed of Akiko’s unpaying clientele, no doubt), which has further secured its position as the in-joke of choice. Jun remains oblivious.

“Guess what?”, Kaori alludes. I bet it’s a miracle. They tend to float around the end of Kanon, looking for a cliche to glomp. Hey look, it’s little miss emo cutter girl. Shiori finally decided to stop skipping class, face her sickness, and have lunch with her sister.

kanon24-6-emopower.png

Itai! I am unliked! Oh well, there’s better folks about. Still, she can finally let her tears flow.

And it’s Lunch Time! Somehow Sayuri and Mai were able to get out of the hospital before graduation. Ahaha~ To heal so quickly, it must be a miracle! Right Ma-ai?

kanon24-6b-rightmai.png

Responding with incredible cuteness, it’s Meganekko Mai! She’s following her mistress off to college, and is going to pimp out her special healing ability to all the cute lil animals.

During the walk home, it is revealed that Akiko is a practiced ventrialquist and illusionist. Even Yuuichi has trouble focusing on her face.

kanon24-8-ghosts.png

B- But Akiko-san! Is this a d-d-date!? Common Yuuichi, grow a spine. Nayuki needs a little sister.

Of course, Akiko must reveal to Yuuichi the fate of one Tsukimiya Ayu, which wasn’t as grisly as he was led to believe. Rushing to her hospital bedside he prepares to force himself upon her tangable warm body.

It’s graduation, and Yuuchi delivers flowers to the upperclasswomen of his haram. Of course, Mai is stunning as usual. Sayuri and Mai are going to a party. It’s going to be a private party, which they rather wish Yuuchi would share with them. As Yuuchi selflishly wants to talk to Ayu, he passes on the exciting night. Idiot. Look at how much Mai wants you dressed as a teddy bear.

kanon24-11-mai-is-beautiful.png

Damnit. He’s going over there every day, instead of paying attention to the cute girl who likes cute animals. She’ll just have to beat somebody down.

Ayu remains crazy, and everyone joins in the fun of playing dollie with Ayu’s prone form. They massage her limbs, change her clothes, cut her hair, and perform strange angelic rituals over her living corpse.

Following her mother’s recovery, and subsequent caring for Ayu, Nayuki has grown into a responsible, beautiful young woman. Common Yuuichi, Akiko needs grandkids. “I can believe. Miracles do happen. Fight, okay?”

kanon24-15-nayuki-is-beautiful.png

Yuuichi can’t reasonably handle this much good news. Nayuki is going to a college with a good track team (scholership?), Kaori is leaving too. Mai and Sayuri will be continuing their relationship at college. Shiori did some art thing that Yuuichi couldn’t be bothered to pay attention to. Wah, everyone is leaving him behind. Can you hear him, Ayu? He is desperate for a miracle.

kanon24-16-yuuichis-pit-of-despair.png

It’s Mai! The health-bringer! She really can’t perform her bad-assery with Sayuri in the way, so she had to come alone.

kanon24-17-mai-the-health-bringer.png

Yuuichi goes hunting for Ayu. Her crazy ghost of the past runs past him in the market. She steals the narrarator’s mic and lists off the seasons and how much she likes each one.

kanon24-18-ayus-ghost-got-out-again.png

Jun is such a trusty workhorse. Good to make use of him, sisters!

kanon24-19-workhorse.png

And none of those seasons can penetrate her desolate hospital room. Uguu.

kanon24-20-ayu-is-alone.png

Yuuichi finds the headband, which has somehow sat in a tuff of grass for the last 7 years, with wrapping paper intact. The lack of a sane reality drives Yuuichi to madness, and he breaks down crying.

And so Yuuichi reached into the past, complete with future-Yuuichi’s jacket, to give the headband to Ayu’s ghost.

kanon24-23-nigger-stole-my-coat.png

Is this still making sense to anybody?

Back to the present, and Yuuichi is late meeting the sickly-but-alive non-loli Ayu, with freshly destroyed hair: Boku looks like a boy. It’s ok, floppy ears and overalls look good.

kanon24-24-wheelchair.png

I don’t seem to recall the wheelchair being present in the game or 2002 animation.

Eventually, no matter how long it takes, she’ll run again. On dirt, grass, or snow, no matter what the seasons bring, she will run again. Hey look, credits, and she’s running already!

Mai is just that awesome.
