Kanon: a Translation: On Hold

Kanon tells a truly epic story, and one that will always have a place in my heart. They are the original Sad Girls in Snow. I own the old Kanon anime on DVD, and am really pumped about this 2006 remake of the old classic. I played the game through as far as Haeleth’s 57% patch permitted, and eagerly wished to finish the game. Like many people, what I played through was a pirated version of Kanon plus the translation patch. I had promised to myself on my occasions that I would purchase the game when it was translation in its entirety. It seems that dream will not come to pass.

Haeleth announced that he’s putting the Kanon Translation project on hold. He states this is only until he’s completed current authorized translation activities – al|together and Narcissu 2 – after which he will approach Key and see whether it is possible to gain permission for some kind of limited authorised release.

The reasons that Haeleth cites are valid and wholesome, I cannot disagree with them.

However, I sincerely doubt that Key will ever authorize an independent volunteer translation of their story, regardless of the economic benefit of doing so. Kanon is their baby, and they will not release control over its use and presentation. Key themselves will likely never release an english translation of the game either.
