XplorNet Customer Service Found Lacking

XplorNet wireless highspeed internet service is anything but. It certainly is fast, but it’s not internet. It’s more like an packet blackhole, a nice place to loose data.

The service is rock solid stable at night, but fails intermittently throughout the day. I have not determined whether this is due to changes in EMF radiation over the day’s span, a heat issue from direct sunlight, or some chatty lady in her ill-situated garden using a cordless phone all day.

I moved the antenna slightly several weeks ago. The signal continued to be perfectly fine for a week following the adjustment. I do not believe there is an aiming issue cause by myself, though xplornet will likely think otherwise. And likely try to bill me for an onsite visit, which won’t solve the problem.

I have opened a ticket with Xplornet, to no avail. I have had a ticket for reverse dns open since May16th, and have yet to get a callback from their Tier2 department. I am paying for connectivity, and not getting it. But more irritating by far, is the lack of decent customer service.

Go ahead; try to ping 142.46.152.131, and see if I’m alive. In the meantime, verselogic.net is a bit suck, and I’m back on 28.8 dialup.

    Hey Alan !

    Can’t ping your IP ?

Reason : Check your ICMP settings in the properties of your local area connection.

You’ll find it in the Advance Tab in the settings of the Windows firewall. (Or other Firewall)

In other words. YOU are blocking the ping request with your firewalls.

    Check it out !!

Ok, that was my fault totally. Not a windows computer, but rather a router that I had configured with an overly locked down ICMP policy last week. That’s been fixed, and my traceroute returns to its former glory.
